Frequently asked questions

Are the decibel readings calibrated?

Not by default. Acoustic Detector uses the iPhone's built-in microphone to estimate the sound level — it is indicative, not a certified instrument. The Sound Meter mode offers optional manual calibration against a reference instrument to fine-tune accuracy.

Does the LiDAR room scan work on every iPhone?

No, only on Pro models with a LiDAR sensor (iPhone 12 Pro and later). On other iPhones, you enter the room's dimensions manually in Treatment mode — every calculation feature remains available.

Is the reverberation (RT60) calculation exact?

Treatment mode offers two estimates: a theoretical calculation (Sabine formula, based on your dimensions and materials, per octave band) and a live measurement using a noise burst. Both are useful approximations to guide acoustic treatment, not laboratory measurements.

Are my measurements sent anywhere?

No. No data ever leaves your device. See our privacy policy.

Is the app available in French and other languages?

Yes. Acoustic Detector speaks 7 languages (English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian and Japanese) — a language button in the main menu switches the interface, independently of your iPhone's language.

Is there a subscription?

No. Acoustic Detector is free to download: the sound meter, analyzer, tuner, measurements table and PDF export are included. Treatment and Calculators unlock with a one-time purchase (CA$4.99), no subscription. Updates are included. If you bought the app before it became free, everything stays unlocked automatically.

How do I restore my purchase?

On a new iPhone or after reinstalling, open Treatment or Calculators and tap “Restore Purchases”, using the same Apple ID as for the purchase.

Is the app available on Android?

Not at the moment — Acoustic Detector is available on iPhone (iOS 17 or later).
